Setting Eichen House was built in 1912 and hasn't received all that many updates since then. Most of the fixtures are old and the areas deeper into the facility - away from the prying eyes of visiting family - are sorely in need of repair. It's a building that seems to be trapped eternally in the cold and it's well-earned its name of the 'Echo House'; sounds travel disturbing well through the walls.
The facility itself is shaped like a bat. Toward the center of the first floor lies many of the activity rooms with male and female 'dorms' extending off in hallways on either side, making up the shape of the wings. The courtyard can be found in-between. At the end of the courtyard where the ends of the hallways are is a third 'wing', a newly-built portion for staff to live in.
The facility is large enough and caters to individuals with needs that requires staff to live on-grounds 24/7. Their 'shifts' generally run for six months followed by three months off and then three months of 're-training' to ensure they're up to date on all hospital policy. During their 'on' periods they're allowed to take the occasional day off but are expected to be available to help out with patients close to 24/7.
Eichen House is designed to be a long-term care facility. It does cater to short-term stays but staff will not allow a patient to leave if they do not feel they will be successful in the outside world.
Because staff lives on-site there is a portion of the building that is a far newer addition. None of the heating problems exists in the staff wing and their rooms are far larger. They're only expected to sleep one per room, their rooms come with a TV and set-ups for laptops and other devices, they have their own private bathrooms, they have access to a large shared kitchen amongst the rest of the staff, and an up-to-date recreation center with a large TV, game stations, pool table, and more. In short - the staff get all the good stuff and the patients do not.
Nothing supernatural can happen on hospital grounds. This does not mean that the supernatural does not exist, merely that if it does something about the building prevents anything from happening. Perhaps the building is made out of mountain ash, or palo alto, or perhaps it was built overtop a devil's trap or enochian sigils. Whatever the reason, everything is painfully human inside the walls of Eichen House.
